    Interesting video!

I guess there are two kinds of people in the world. The first kind sees the majesty of the cattle in Daniel Naude’s images and thinks, "I should really try to be a vegetarian." The other kind of people look at the same images and say, "Man, I could really go for a cheeseburger right about now." Sadly, I fall in to the latter category.

Perhaps its our own back ground that causes us to relate to certain images. I grew up in a more rural environment and though I’ve never seen cows like those before, I liked the cow portraits by far the best.

  5. @buyaport on October 29, 2024 at 9:11 pm

Documents of today, where people apparently think they have to scream to be heard. Mostly kitsch. (Wondering why I watched it anyhow? Well, it never hurts, and I have p.t. some extra time, doing my weekly scans.)

Favourite modern day photographers would probably be Frank Okenfels III and my reason may sound very photo snobbish but I think it is important. It often feels like knowing all the technical stuff in photography has become an after thought for many modern photographers. Frank is exceptionally good technically but is also able to create exceptionally creative images. He knows his lighting framing and lenses. He isn’t afraid to use a terrible lens to create something wonderful and he also has a great imagination.

Getting off my high horse Nick Brandt work is amazing.

  7. @ruththomas9488 on October 29, 2024 at 9:15 pm

    The cattle were very cool.

  8. @aes53 on October 29, 2024 at 9:18 pm

Alex, the thing I get most from your videos an introduction to photographers I have not heard of. I’m now heading out of town with my camera in search of cattle😁

  9. @clivehutchby5035 on October 29, 2024 at 9:20 pm

Love your channel, but I was distinctly underwhelmed by almost every image posted in this video.

  10. @brucebodo9846 on October 29, 2024 at 9:23 pm

please keep doing what you are doing. I love that this isn’t a gear channel and you are all about the art of photography!!

  11. @b991228 on October 29, 2024 at 9:23 pm

    Cattle is impressiveness!

  12. @SimonWillig on October 29, 2024 at 9:24 pm

  14. @runninblue9415 on October 29, 2024 at 9:25 pm

Wonderful. Photography is such a broad church. Don’t underestimate the value you’re bringing to the community with this content. Gear reviews are two a penny. This is just inspiring thank you 👌

  15. @Obeijin on October 29, 2024 at 9:28 pm

    You left me out !

  16. @tessm3420 on October 29, 2024 at 9:28 pm

Daniel Naude is probably the closest to my interest 😄 I consider myself a landscape photographer although I do like to dip into other types of photography from time to time.

  17. @thomassantomartino7337 on October 29, 2024 at 9:28 pm

Can you please make a video about the photography of Matthew Brady?

  18. @cortomaltese9498 on October 29, 2024 at 9:29 pm

It is really wonderful that you chose to create such a video! I have recently discovered a young photographer, as well. Her name is Sarah van Rij and I’m in awe of her work! I think it is really worth it checking out her photographers!

  19. @bobbowring1702 on October 29, 2024 at 9:32 pm

Most of these photos dont do nothing for me Im affraid if we all were the same life would be boring. Would like to see more posts like this please. I do like the architecture shots I like. I also like urbex photography.

  20. @Milchknirps on October 29, 2024 at 9:32 pm

Yeah, now that was fun. I only wish Agnès Clotis has published a Book of her works, that would make a perfect Birthday present for me.

Nothing unusual about any of those photo’s.

  23. @ProjectOverseer on October 29, 2024 at 9:35 pm

I’m so pleased I found your channel. I lost interest in photography after being involved in lifestyle commercial photography and filming to a degree.
Your fantastic channel is inspiring and firing up my interest again.
    Thank you 👍

  24. @retropixer on October 29, 2024 at 9:36 pm

Aside from the run of the mill usual places like Instagram, how would you recommend we discover contemporary photographers?

  25. @prilljazzatlanta5070 on October 29, 2024 at 9:38 pm

Loved this episode. Please show the work of Mark Steinmetz. As someone from Atlanta, Ga hes a dream come true to have a photographer focus on the southeastern states

  26. @Rob.1340 on October 29, 2024 at 9:39 pm

    Thank you. 👍📷😎

  27. @af4od02 on October 29, 2024 at 9:40 pm

  28. @gregderozier3846 on October 29, 2024 at 9:41 pm

    Photography school crap.

  29. @philhodgkinson1460 on October 29, 2024 at 9:43 pm

Very Inspiring talk…enjoyed cattle of the Cape in South Africa…..
I wonder if anyone spcializes in the Wild horse
herds maybe in Nabimia… I know there is a history to these herds harking back to WW1 and German involvement in Africa and hence is quite historic…..

  30. @jimshaw5450 on October 29, 2024 at 9:45 pm

    Especially the cow part. Jim

  31. @ThePhotographicEye on October 29, 2024 at 9:45 pm

Fraid I can’t be with you for the premier, but hope you enjoy this look at some modern photographers.
Please let me know below any of your current favourites. (FYI, I have to manually approve links, so don’t fret if your comment doesn’t show up right away)

  32. @alanburton7426 on October 29, 2024 at 9:46 pm

Think I’ve just realised why some photographers work leaves me a little cold; down sizing and jpeg compression. Then there’s whatever compression’s added from video. I liked the South African cattle shots, but I suspect I’d love them more printed out to a reasonable size showing a lot more detail. In my mind, I think they’d be magnificent. The digital, online, age probably isn’t doing some great photographers work any favours.

I’ll need to keep this in mind in the future.

  33. @terrygunnill7967 on October 29, 2024 at 9:46 pm

Thanks as always thought provoking, i enjoy your why we photograph and not just how

  34. @seoulrydr on October 29, 2024 at 9:47 pm

I hope you do this again – thank you!

  35. @julianperkins81 on October 29, 2024 at 9:49 pm

Those Daro Sulakauri images are so stunning and moving!

  36. @benroyal1957 on October 29, 2024 at 9:52 pm

Enjoy seeing these modern-day photographers. Thanks.

  37. @johnpollock6996 on October 29, 2024 at 9:53 pm

This video is based on the superb idea of introducing up-and-comers of the photographic world. I really dig that idea, even though I did not care a whit for any of the images except for the staircase (5:14) and the cattle. Notwithstanding my being underwhelmed by most of this group of photographers, please do keep doing these types of videos.

  38. @Boatzerama on October 29, 2024 at 9:53 pm

    Check out Martin Bennie📷👍🏻

  39. @TL-xw6fh on October 29, 2024 at 9:55 pm

You’re so right about some of the images not being ‘perfect’. Current theme in the photographic world these days is the obsession with technical perfection – megapixels, dynamic range, bokeh (urghh..!), sensor noise, distortion, pixel peeping, sharpness, "Fuji-like" colours, etc etc. YouTube is inundated with technical reviews of cameras, lenses, filters, gear, gear and more gear. Very little content such as yours, which is what photography is all about – creating images that tell a story that the photographer wants to convey, and with emotion. I’ve subscribed!

  40. @thatdeafguyuk on October 29, 2024 at 9:56 pm

Ohhhhh some new contemporaries for you…. Bryan Schutmaat, Ogawa Yashiro, Matt Black, Jake Reinhart, Mark Steinmetz, Richard Rothman, Agata Grzybowska, Mimi Plumb, Gerry Johansson, Robbie Lawrence, Carl Bigmore, Mike Brodie, Dylan Hausthor, Paul Guilmoth, Tomasz Laczny, Jakob De Boer, Jon Cazenave, Markus Andersen…….

  41. @tanyadeleeuw on October 29, 2024 at 9:57 pm

really enjoyed those architectural images, also the cattle – those horns! how do you "find" these modern/unknown photog’s work, Alex? or are they already more "known" in art circles?

  42. @washingtonradio on October 29, 2024 at 9:58 pm

The cattle really struck me. Seeing the work on newer, contemporary photographers is very important. The problem for many is for someone to say ‘hey take a look at their work’.

  43. @adventure_photo on October 29, 2024 at 10:00 pm

Your channel is very refreshing and I love your commentary. So many photography channels are all about the gear. I love how you focus on the history, the individual, their style, and their techniques. I find this very inspirational. Keep up the great work!

  44. @Cristasphoto on October 29, 2024 at 10:03 pm

How can attract more views? I know I am good at my craft but apparently I suck at attracting viewers….

  45. @videovuer on October 29, 2024 at 10:06 pm

    Wonderful. Appreciate these introductions!

  46. @mihocmircea779 on October 29, 2024 at 10:08 pm

I love your channel. Your enthusiasm is contagious

  47. @johnclay7644 on October 29, 2024 at 10:08 pm

    informative 14mins.

  48. @The_Hero_Is_Back on October 29, 2024 at 10:08 pm

Beautifully curated and very well-chosen music for each collection.

  49. @EdwardKilner on October 29, 2024 at 10:08 pm

In 2008-9, I lived in Johannesburg. There was a local bookstore with a good magazine rack, including locally printed photo magazines featuring local talent. And, the talent was excellent! This video brought back those happy days.
