There are several of these videos on YouTube – I thought yours was explicit and sensible. It is amazing how many people clean lenses then place a dirty cap over the lens object glass.

Hi Paul ,thanks for this informative video, what are your thoughts on dry cabinets for storing camera and lens gear.

  15. @confuzler6985 on October 29, 2024 at 9:17 pm

Putting a $10 piece of polarizer in front of a $2000 camera lens is simply dumb.
If you are doing that, stop. You can’t scratch glass, unless you try to, very, very hard… and every polarizer effect can easily be 100% created in post.

  16. @dedskin1 on October 29, 2024 at 9:18 pm

Im an expert in lens cleaning , i will give you advice that will save you time , save you money , save you camera bag space , and save you from scratching you lens with dirty cloth , because even if you think its clean , cloth if used and stored has sand in it , and its a soft sand paper . Now to the advice .
Do you know what is the most expensive optics made by man ?
Its a telescope mirror , it sometimes goes to space !
Do you know how they test this Millions of dollars worth of lens ? They use a sticky tape , normal kind . It is happy to stick anything to it , and does not leave residue . You are not brushing it across your lens so you wont scratch anything even if you have sand on your glass . And it cleans human fingerprints and oil , basically things you cant blow off , like a boss . Just try it .
Take a piece of sticky tape , stick it to your lens , real good … Then peal off .. yes clean like it came from the factory . If not , well you have a lot of sticky tape left right ?
So have at it . You wont damage your lens with it , not possible . Even if you have dirty hands with sand on them .
    Your welcome .

One thing I would like to know – filters. I assume they are specific to the lens?

Thank you for the vids…excellent stuff and I was taking photos of the moon tonight after watching your video on it.

  20. @quintonshuman3144 on October 29, 2024 at 9:22 pm

could the dehumidifier tub or whatever that is just be pulling in a large portion of what you’re sending out with that diffuser on top of the shelf?

  21. @jeffshea1389 on October 29, 2024 at 9:23 pm

Should I use compressed gas duster to remove dust and lint remover from camera?

  22. @juliesheard2082 on October 29, 2024 at 9:28 pm

I have a Lumix G1 which has been in storage for some years. I recently pulled it out of its case to find tht the body of the camera is covered in a gluey substance which will come off it gently eased with a thumbnail nd is like little balls of glue or chewing gum in texture. I can’t get it off completely and wonder if you can suggest how I can clean it. Rubbing alchohol? Don’t want to cause further damage.🙄

how do you clean the camera body. My hands get sweaty and next to the beach salt water particul fly around. Do you use water a wet clothe or is there a special solution for it. Thanks

  28. @peeweebarney on October 29, 2024 at 9:38 pm

After I rub off the dust from the camera body and lens (not the glass), I rub them with silicon gun cloth.

One of the most useful videos I’ve ever seen Paul, Thanks very much. The "marigolds" tip has just saved me from a stuck circular polariser filter ( as you’ll know the front part is meant to rotate, so it was quite difficult to get a grip … as it is in life more generally! )

  36. @stam8265 on October 29, 2024 at 9:47 pm

Very useful and creative ways of caring lens and camera gears.

  37. @jaideepahuja9655 on October 29, 2024 at 9:48 pm

Thank you for your tips. Very useful, as the rest of your videos

  38. @ramus9 on October 29, 2024 at 9:48 pm

I actually use a compressor with a nozzle to clean my gear and to clean the sensor as well. The high pressure air should be enough to remove any dust and dirt.

  39. @Twobarpsi on October 29, 2024 at 9:49 pm

    Great advice!

  40. @leniehulse1621 on October 29, 2024 at 9:49 pm

How do you clean a camera body itself after going to the beach and you have salt spray on it?

  41. @Rudra-P-Gajera on October 29, 2024 at 9:50 pm

1:35 You said here that dust is usually falling downwards due to gravity, but this is not true because of "Brownian Motion". Dust (and particles of smaller sizes) are very light weight and therefore these normally get tossed around due to air molecules hitting them, so I don’t think keeping your camera facing up or down makes any difference (unless there are heavy particles in your environment which haven’t already fallen (which I personally don’t think would be the case)).

  42. @DaveThompsonfairlife4all on October 29, 2024 at 9:52 pm

"Dust falls downwards due to gravity." I honestly had forgotten about gravity. Thanks for that.
