  2. @wakamiti on October 29, 2024 at 9:02 pm

    Tip 1: don’t shoot with a Nikon😂😂

  3. @dennisbicksler1485 on October 29, 2024 at 9:04 pm

Why would you not crop sports images. It makes no sense.

  4. @Me-gy7yk on October 29, 2024 at 9:04 pm

I’ve been doing sports photography for a dozen years and speaking for myself, I think the very best tool you need to get good shots is an understanding of the sport you’re shooting. I started out with a very slow DSLR and half the battle when you’re shooting a fast moving sport at 3.5fps, as I was, is the ability to read the game you’re shooting. I’ve found the faster my cameras were, the lazier I became and I relied too much on the camera. I now shoot with a couple of 1DX bodies but I’m going to retrain my eye and instincts with my old DSLR in the pre-season matches.

I shoot High School football games at 7PM every week in the fall so the sun is down. I need a video to help me out with that. Shooting with a 2.8 lens is the only tip that I know.

  6. @jonathanjones4566 on October 29, 2024 at 9:07 pm

Sports photography is only if you have kids playing a sport. Beyond that, there’s no reason for it.

  7. @FilmingPanda on October 29, 2024 at 9:09 pm

    Great video

  8. @billanderson2730 on October 29, 2024 at 9:09 pm

Great Video. I shoot grandsons flag football every week. Give link to all pictures to everyone, originals, free downloads etc. They love seeing kids in action frozen in thousands of a sec. I purposely shoot around f9, more parents happy seeing more kids in focus. Yes I use Auto Iso and occasionally crop. Thanks.

  9. @SakuraHayashi-u2m on October 29, 2024 at 9:10 pm

Can you please share what focus mode did you use? Did you use face detection etc? 😊 thanks

  10. @carljonesmedia on October 29, 2024 at 9:10 pm

Started with my kids flag football, led to highschool football and now going into year 4 in the NFL! Always work on your craft and strive to get better, whether that’s technique or image quality!

Im coming for that critique one day.

  13. @aysolar on October 29, 2024 at 9:24 pm

did you shoot with the sun at your back? I noticed that there weren’t too many shadows on the faces

12:58 am i the only one that that thinks the takeoff looks great, the first pic, the dirt flying up looks super cool

  17. @ErikRank on October 29, 2024 at 9:32 pm

Why are you shooting vertically the entire time?

  18. @V1ZNS. on October 29, 2024 at 9:32 pm

    👐

  19. @joseph1172 on October 29, 2024 at 9:35 pm

What’s the legality of taking photos of minors as a photographer? The way the world is today, they question everything?

  20. @demacmaster on October 29, 2024 at 9:35 pm

Jared, your thoughts of shooting full frame reminds me when we shot Kodachrome… As you couldn’t crop after the shot. Yes for the digital world that is film. Most young shooters these days spray and pray. Then do a lot of post production. If they learn to make their shots in the camera, they would be better shooters all around…

  21. @MikeF2359 on October 29, 2024 at 9:36 pm

Great video, enjoy you videos and the podcast as well each Friday.

  22. @skybirdification on October 29, 2024 at 9:37 pm

Really interesting video! What do you do with the images *not* being the best of the best? Keep them on disk, archive, delete?

  23. @Britton0932 on October 29, 2024 at 9:38 pm

Tell your nephew to keep his eyes on the hips of the QB. He won’t get “juked out of his pants” as much! You’ll get loads more flag pull shots.

  24. @beanballshazam on October 29, 2024 at 9:38 pm

I’m a beginner. But I took some photos of a basketball game. I printed some dunks and framed them. A pro league asked me to take some shots. I bought the RF 70-200 2.8. So now a local university asked if I’d do some football games. I have the 100-500 but I like closer up so my 800 f11 is my favorite. But I’m not sure what lens I should use. Or if I should even rent one. I like the shots where you rolled right.

  25. @mluthfi1131 on October 29, 2024 at 9:39 pm

Great! Lanjutkan apa yang kamu suka bro, konsisten itu penting. Tetap semangat dan kamu akan mendapatkan imbalannya

    😂

  27. @mathieudaponti740 on October 29, 2024 at 9:43 pm

Does Global Shutter means HDR photos? 3 exposures meant 3 pictures with a rolling shutter. Will a global shutter be able to clip 3 exposures at once? Allowing for instant HDR, perhaps even no post-editing required!? 😮

  28. @MatisMedia on October 29, 2024 at 9:43 pm

Love the sports tips! Would love to see more!

  29. @robertjohnson1246 on October 29, 2024 at 9:43 pm

What focus are you using? Single? Constant? Where are you aiming your focus that you get his whole body so clear?

  30. @Sundedo522 on October 29, 2024 at 9:44 pm

I love the videos and I’m learning a ton!!! But always have questions… Is it ok to shoot jpeg instead of RAW? I’m shooting youth football so want to make sure I’m getting as high a frame rate as possible (Canon 70d). The buffer seems to fill too quickly shooting RAW.

Secondly, I was given the advice to shoot full open (2.8), at least 1/1200 and auto iso. Would it be better to keep control of the iso? I’ve been trying to get better at tweaking the settings as the game goes on and conditions change but by keeping the shutter/aperture constant and letting the camera control iso to maintain exposure has seemed to be working out.

For the most part I haven’t been culling my sessions unless there’s an egregious focus or blurred image. I upload all of the images to Google and let parents pick out what they really like. Yes, it uses a fair bit of storage but I have plenty and always backup them up to SD card after the season.

  31. @jonsmith5810 on October 29, 2024 at 9:45 pm

New subscriber here! It’s been 20+ years since I sat down with a camera, but I appreciate your videos! Always great to have a reminder of a fresh new take on something I didn’t know.

  32. @tectorama on October 29, 2024 at 9:47 pm

When photographing field hockey I shoot at 1/2000 sec, with auto ISO. I want to freeze the action and the light is usually constantly changing. I also crop 95% of my photos, as I use a 70-200 lens.
I do an initial cull using Faststone, a free programme, before uploading to Lightroom. I typically start with around 200 pictures which I like to cull to under 100.

Muy buena la traducción, se agradece. Muchas gracias

  34. @nighthawk20011 on October 29, 2024 at 9:51 pm

Roller Derby photographer here. Could you do one that deals with indoor light? I learn as I go, but could use a boost… especially since over the weekend I went from 7dmkii to an R6mkii. Dealing with roller rink lights or sports facilities with crappy lights/windows/red sports court floor is a lot different than dealing with sunsine and green grass.

  35. @shanemartinphoto2974 on October 29, 2024 at 9:52 pm

With sports photos like this, in the middle of the day with bright light. Are you dialing the setting in to be right at -/+0 or are you looking to over or under expose?

  36. @cruiz3597 on October 29, 2024 at 9:52 pm

Is there a reason why so high speed at 1/4000 ? Wouldn’t 1200/2.8/ 400 work as well ? Thanks for you the video.

  37. @theprofessionaldependa on October 29, 2024 at 9:53 pm

Took photos of my daughter’s volleyball team this season. Gave the parents free access to all of the photos of all the kids. Helped me improve and was a great way to give back to the team that worked so hard all season.

  38. @JangoBricks on October 29, 2024 at 9:54 pm

If I took a shot everytime jared said “best of the best with honors sir” for like 2 videos id be absolutely hammered

  39. @Britton0932 on October 29, 2024 at 9:54 pm

If you haven’t purchased all 4 FROpacks, you’re wasting time editing. The best place to start with all of your photos is a FROpack. AND, when you’re just out somewhere with your friends and only have a phone, you can take shots and immediately slap a Skittles or Cinnamon Toast Crunch onto them. share those with the friends you’re with and they are blown away and ask, “why don’t my pictures look like this?” You can just respond, “photographer!” And then later tell them where they can get the FROpacks. That’s what I do! HAVE FUN!!!

  40. @davidb1749 on October 29, 2024 at 9:55 pm

Hey Jared, what keyboard are you using?

  41. @JenHamon on October 29, 2024 at 9:55 pm

400mm f/2.8 is an awesome lens (and mega $$$), but this seems like a situation where I would rather be out with a 100-400 or similar and have the flexibility to pull back to 300 when the players are closer to me.

  42. @_Suzuka_Joe on October 29, 2024 at 9:56 pm

I took 3300 photos this weekend at a CMRA club racing event and going through them has been a total pain. This is exactly what I needed.

  43. @madtom67 on October 29, 2024 at 9:56 pm

Cropping is also photography 😁 Always entertaining to watch your videos, thanks!

  44. @Bassmunchkin1 on October 29, 2024 at 9:56 pm

    Two questions please.

Firstly will Fropack work with Luminar Neo i.e does Luminar Neo do video editing

Secondly, I notice a lot of you here mentioning that you also photograph your family youngsters, but I can see that if adults at the games believe your professional photographers, it may not bother them, but I’m struggling to feel comfortable about shooting my niece with other children about. I’m in the UK and our rules and guide lines might be different, so please help me get around this uncomfortable feeling that I’m being watched all the time and if you could give me some suggestions, I’d be really greatful.

  45. @PaoloFranceschini on October 29, 2024 at 9:56 pm

Your "do not crop" (ok… you don’t say exactly that) is my pain in the neck. I’m used to crop but the effect is exactly what you said in the video, I end up keeping too many pictures (since I can "recover" them) and let go the in camera work/challenge

  46. @TWOFORTY_STUDIO on October 29, 2024 at 9:57 pm

Awesome. Now I need to buy a camera that can spray and walk away like that. Good stuff.

  47. @cmhuggins29 on October 29, 2024 at 9:57 pm

Started taking pictures of my son’s soccer games. I crop my photos but I am new to photography.

  48. @BillKeechPiperRacingPhotog on October 29, 2024 at 9:57 pm

When I am taking dirt track racing photos, at times when I’m panning , I’ll start away from the sun and pan toward the sun and then my picture gets blown out , but it’s good when I snap the pic before I get to that area so it’s hard , I’ve tried auto iso but that doesn’t work either, thanks

  49. @tmewborn1 on October 29, 2024 at 9:57 pm

Thanks, I have been shooting Action Sports mostly High School for many years as I am currently age 84. I appreciate your details in picking the best shots, etc., plus your editing. I came from a very poor family, My mother struggle to pay the necessary school fees. As a results all of the images I take are posted on a site free for the Youth’s & their Families. I have watched you for years. I recently saw your interview by a young man, and your Dad speaking of sales. I admire that in you, your business success, and being true to yourself. I wish you continued success.

  50. @jmendezh on October 29, 2024 at 9:59 pm

    Nice bro.

I just wonder, why not Photo Mechanic for your organization and curling process? I do noticed that Lightroom works very well for you, but Photo Mechanic is another level. I know it depends of every photographer needs, but I just wonder why not for you.

    Thanks my man.
