This was physically painful
@0:18 I think my soul left my body for a second.
I absolutely lost it when you told your daughter you’re busy cleaning your lens. Bravo.
uncut Isopropyl alcohol should only be used as a last resort only if regular cleaner fails. It can over time if over used degrade a hydrophilic top coating that may use ionization and reduces porosity to repel grease and dust. This coating indirectly contributes to scratch resistance as prevents dust than could potentially become abrasive. Regular use can promote a cycle that degrades a surface that then must be cleaned more often… and repeats a hair faster each time. If you notice a lens that doesn’t stay as clean as it used to or gets water spots easily, this is one possible cause. There is time to use isopropyl or denatured alcohol, its the most effective cleaner for many things, just not regularly.
dayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyuuuuumnnnnnn!!!!!!!!
I always put UV filters on my lenses to protect them. It is always cheaper to replace a damaged filter.
Note that many lens manufacturers will put in the fine print to NOT USE LENS CLEANER ON THEIR LENSES. For example, Tamron writes "Do not use lens cleaners on lenses with a fluorine coating. Use only a dry microfiber cloth to clean the lens." "Since the fluorine coating repels lens cleaners, wipe the front element of these lenses with only a dry cloth."
I need your prototype! Where I can buy it?
What is the best tolerance of the glass? What would happen if you get black smoke on the lens, like from a candle that just got blown out? Hope much force is needed to crush the lens?
Thanks for sharing
Great video thanks.π
Now this is vodka it’s basically ethanol and water, and this is how you use this, then proceeds to taking a shot lol hilarious
won’t alcohol take away the lens coatings?
how to clean it from inside? i did clean with alcohol once and it was great i poured much alcohol inside the whole thing, but what if alcohol not available? does water alone do the trick?
How do you reassemble those lens when you take it apart and forget the order it connects back toπ
planning to open my lens . will fungus be cleaned by wiping with dry cloth alone?

Omg this guy is using all those horrible tools to clean the lens, someone call the police and the FBI and NASA.
Just got my MP-E 65 MM Macro lens, thx for the video.
Edit: Just watched, very informative and well made! Got some laughs π
Lol
So this dude took macro vagina shots so you stopped using the same lens cleaner as him? π€Interesting.
That was a funny bit with your daughter. She already has great acting skills!
useless and unfunny
I work in a hanger at the security desk…we do maintenance on airplanes as well as paint them. I’m curious if there’s a way to get paint over spray off of the security camera lens? Thx in advance! Linda
Hi… 2024 here.
Got a name for your power buffer.
"The Mutha Buffa"
I’ll see myself out.
Thank you for the tips
Do you have a list of the best lens cleaners (where to buy)?
π the daughter turning away, Oscar-worthy
Were you saying that a dry microfiber is bad? I’ve always used a dry microfiber unless there are obvious fingerprints.
i just use my foreskin. all my jewish and muslim friends are jealous.
would you recommend the same cleaning technics for the sensor side of the lens?
heart attack on 0:20
Is it safe to use 70% isopropyl alcohol on camera lens??
Scratches at a level 6 with deeper grooves at applying the Dremel.
I almost got a heart attack at the beginning of the video
this channel is useless
last video before bed….
the video….
I have some older lenses with a white-ish coating on all of the grip surfaces. Q-tips and alcohol or warm water did not fully work.
Ok so far. But did you even consider to clean your favorite DSLR or mirrorless in an ultrasonic cleaner? That might be interesting, too!

no, no, no: the screwdriver should rotate the lens not the cloth π
I just got my first camera and lens, but the into hurt my soul in a way I didn’t know it could.
Thank you for presenting your innovative method. Watching your videos gives me a sense of self-confidence. I think, after all, I am not that crazy with my photography equipment!
No value here/
The vodka skit made the video and made me lol. Had to subscribe!
also, normal breath is 99.9% distilled water, and unless you drop in some phlegm, and will do less harm than the air in a city street. If you drink vodka, it will actually improve the cleaning efficiency a touch.
Think about propylene glycol.
I’ve used my breath and some sort of lens paper since the early 80’s right after it came out and I’ve never had any issues with my lenses. I’ll keep doing that.
It’s pretty much agreed in the industry that using Isopropyl Alcohol to clean Camera Lenses is a no-no. If it’s pure Isopropyl Alcohol that’s a different matter, but in most cases it’s not and contains other additives that will harm you glass. Stick to the proper stuff that’s made for the job.
I’ve had some lenses for about 7 years and never cleaned them. I take the lens cap off long enough to take some pictures and put it back on again, and they’re honestly perfectly clean. Never had anything in the images. I really don’t like the idea of rubbing anything on the lens. But I think i’m finally ready to Learn how to properly clean them!
